  • Prices are per person in a double room.
Single travelers must pay single supplement: € 200,-
  • Payment for this workshop will be split into two installments. To secure your spot on the workshop/tour you have to pay an immediate deposit payment of 250,-. This deposit is non-refundable.
The remaining balance is due 2 weeks before the tour (Dec. 20th, 2016).
  • You will need a (tourist) visa and a health insurance for Russia, which you have to look after by yourself (it will take about 10 days). We will provide you with all necessary papers like invitation and hotel booking confirmation.
  • The average January temperature in Moscow is -8°C, so be sure to take with you warm and weatherproof clothings and good shoes.
  Your host/instructor
  • Chris Dematté, a professional photographer for more than 35 years now, is an international recognized fine art photographer and artist, who has been living for the last three years in Moscow. He has a MFA in Photography and a BA in History and had a lot of solo exhibitions and book publications. You can find his work at his website and at his blog.

  • Filters
  • Laptop (with image editing software)
  And bring with you some examples of your previous works (either on USB stick or memory card or printed out).

10:00 _ Meet & Greet
We are meeting at the hotel bar for a cup of coffee
- to become acquainted with each other
- to hear about your level of (photographic) experience
- to learn a little bit about your expectations regarding this workshop
- giving some first & basic tips, tricks and advices

12:00 _ Becoming acquainted with Moscow
We will walk through on of the typical “old style“ Moscow districts to the Red Square and the Kremlin. On the way there will be a lot of photo opportunities. We will warm up in the biggest and most famous shops of Moscow, the GUM. After a coffee (or two) we will have a lot of photo-opportunities at Red Square and around the Kremlin

14:30-15:30 _ Lunch at “Stolovaya number 5”, a typical Soviet-style canteen

15:30 _ Walk to the banks of the the Moskva, lesson an time exposure and night shots

18:00 (appr.) _ Returning to the hotel, résumé of the day, questioning time

09:30 _ Morning Meeting: Discussing the “crop“ of yesterday’s shootings

10:30-13:30 _ “Underground palaces for the people“
We will make a trip with the Moscow Metro trough same of the amazing and exceptional station like Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Arbatskaya or Revolution Square. The goal is to learn about low light and/or available light photography

Lunch at a restaurant where you can find better burgers and milkshakes than in the USA

15:00-18:00 _ “Follow the Moskva...
...down to Gorky Park.“ Walking on the boulevards and through small back-roads we will come to Gorky Park and the Sculptural Park. A lot of opportunities for street photography, interesting architecture and monuments.

09:30 _ Morning Meeting: Discussing the “crop“ of yesterday’s shootings

10:30 _ “Out of Moscow“
We will drive to Moscow Region. First stop at Borodino, the site of the 1812 battle of the Napoleonic War. Afterwards we will drive through small towns an villages to “Ethno Mir“ and will have a lot of opportunities for some landscape photography lessons.

“Ethno Mir“ is the biggest ethnographic park in Russia. We will stay overnight there at rooms in typical wooden houses and you will have the chance to go to the banya, the typical Russian sauna (so don‘t forget your bathing costumes).

Shared dinner at a typical Russian restaurant, résumé of the day, we will also have a lot of time for discussing your work and for answering questions.

The forenoon is at your free disposal or you can join me for a photo-walk. There are many opportunities for landscape or architecture photography. Or you can have the experience of a trip with a dog-sledge. Just take into account that the weather could be quite cold: last time I have been at Ethno Mir in January we had temperatures around -28°C. ;- )

After a shared lunch we will start at 14:00 our return trip to Moscow.

09:30 _ Morning Meeting: Discussing the “crop“ of yesterday’s shootings

Open day _ you can make suggestions where you want to go, what you want to see - either another photo shooting tour (e.g. to the interesting Novodevichy Cemetery) or visit one of the many museums or galleries.

In the evening we will have a shared dinner at a typical Russian restaurant. Time for analyses, conclusions and feedback

Individual depature. We can provide you for a small fee with transfer from hotel to the airport

Take your camera and accompany me on a photo-walk through the first district of pre-Christmas Vienna. Find new perspectives on old (and much photographed) objects and discover hidden places with me.
